Tour a
"Mirror
Victorian"
Built circa 1889, this unusual twin Victorian structure has the
distinction of providing for the needs of the guests while
maintaining separate living quarters for the family. The
building is comprised of two identical houses adjacent to one
another, leading to the current name, The Looking Glass Bed and
Breakfast. Guests are provided a high level of privacy and a
feeling of being in their own home.
Innkeepers Cari and Philip Meltzer assumed
ownership of the Bed and Breakfast three years ago and treasure the
elegance and authenticity the house provides. Philip grew up in
the village of Rhinebeck and after spending several years in
Boston, MA and Washington, D.C., has taken residency in his
hometown. Cari, too, is a native of New York State, growing up
in the small village of Marathon, several hours to the west of
Rhinebeck. Their son, Connor Brown, was born in February of 2007
and often joins Cari to greet guests and socialize at breakfast.
Every one of the rooms within the Bed and
Breakfast has been restored using period wallpapers and fabrics along with
an interesting color palette both inside and out. An exterior
four color custom paint combination enhances the architectural
details of this attractive home. The original "fish scale"
shingles were discovered intact under a layer of aluminum
siding, and tiny attic windows of stained glass and elaborate dentil
moldings are among the many
Victorian features you'll see on the house.
